The University of Michigan Psychological Clinic

Social Work Internships

The Psychological Clinic offers a limited number of clinical internships to social work students from the University of Michigan School of Social Work (UM-SSW). The internship is a comprehensive program of activities designed to provide intensive training in adult psychotherapy. Training consists of seminars on a wide range of therapeutic modalities (ie psychodynamic, CBT, couple therapy) as well as individual and group supervision meetings. Interns participate in professional development meetings, learn all aspects of clinical report writing, and have many opportunities to present their work. Interns receive weekly supervision of their clinical cases.

This internship is only offered to UM-SSW students completing the 16-month program in Interpersonal Practice or those with Advanced Standing. It is considered an “out-of-sequence” field placement by the School of Social Work and thus runs from the beginning of the program in September until graduation. Interested students should contact the Office of Field Instruction early in the summer prior to the start of the program to inquire about the application process. For further information, please contact Ms. Susan Watts.
